Obituary for Salvatore 'Turi' Calafiore

Salvatore “Turi” Calafiore of Vero Beach, Florida and formerly of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 25th, 2017, he was 83. Sal was born in Solarino, Province of Siracusa in Sicily on August 18, 1934, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Salvatrice (Gallo) Calafiore.

Sal migrated to Venezuela in 1958 and then to the United States in 1968 in search of the American Dream. He was a stone mason/brick layer, loved sports and was passionate about his vegetable garden where he grew a rare type of tomato that made him popular amongst his friends, family and neighbors.

He is survived by his beloved wife Aida (Giustiniano) of 54 years and his three children; Sally and her husband Joe Fusco of Vero Beach, Florida; Sal and his wife Leah Calafiore of Glastonbury; Ann and her husband Adriano Alfano of West Hartford. He is also survived by his five grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Antonella Maria Fusco, Cinzia Alfano, Nicholas Salvatore Calafiore, Valeria Alfano, Alex Calafiore and a great grandson Zion whom he called his little “Rotolino.” He was predeceased by his brother Joseph (Peppe) and is survived by his brother Paul and sisters Santina, Maria, Concetta, and Elena and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 15th at D’Esopo Funeral Home at 277 Folly Brook Blvd in Wethersfield, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield.
