Obituary for Roger Dale Singleton

Roger Singleton has finished his journey on this earth, and now is walking in the clouds with his Lord Jesus. Roger passed away on March 3rd, 2018 at the young age of 67. He beat cancer 20 years ago, but it returned again and took him away from us.

Roger was born on August 27th, 1950, in Beards Fork, West Virginia. He grew up in those mountains, where he bought a farm in Burnsville, WV. He raised beef cattle, and also always planted a big garden. Roger loved his cows, and his old girl Susie would come running to him as soon as she saw him. His favorite thing was a meal fresh from the garden. Roger designed and built his house, a bridge, a large cellar house, and 2 barns.

Roger went to school in Baltimore to become a marine engineer. He sailed for 23 years on cargo ships, stopping at ports in Africa, Australia, Japan, South America, and finally the last years were in the Mediterranean. He brought back many gifts from his travels for his family. He retired from the merchant marines at the age of 50.

From the year 2000 Roger split his time between WV and Florida. He and his wife MaryAnne had a home in West Palm Beach where they lived in the winter and spring, and returned to the farm in the summer and fall.

Roger had a strong faith in God, which he shared eagerly. He especially loved to talk about Revelation. In WV he attended Gassaway Baptist, and in Florida he attended Good Shepherd Church. Roger did not fear death, he looked towards heaven with joy. Roger was known for his corny humor, and he loved to laugh. Roger was a member of Good Shepherd Church, now called Community of Hope.

Roger is survived by his wife MaryAnne, his children Shawn Singleton (Cathy), Paul Singleton (Jo), Emily Nystrom-Pisani (Skip), and Carl Nystrom. Also his grandchildren Aidan, Hailey, Collin, Gavin, Kyla, Logan, Evie, and Peter. He had one brother remaining, Rick Singleton, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also Roger was blessed with many dear and devoted friends.

Roger, we say to you, "go rest high on that mountain, your work on earth is done".

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Pregnancy Center, 56 Beall Drive, Gassaway, West Virginia,, 26624.
