Obituary for Mary L. Baranek

Mary Lydia Baranek (née Bundalo) died peacefully at Hospice House in Stuart, FL, surrounded by her family, on April 4, 2017. She was 90 years old.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia Baranek and Paula (Joseph) Endress; her granddaughters, Mary Endress, Kyle (Colin) Beres, and Erin (Ryan) Smith; and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Cameron Smith, Logan Beres and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Baranek, her brothers Emil and Stanley Bundalo, and her sisters Mildred (Schumann) and Priscilla (Koss).

Mary was born November 18, 1926 in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She met the love of her life, Paul, shortly after his return from WWII, and they married in July of 1946. Mary gave birth to two beautiful daughters whom she loved dearly all her life and who inherited her sense of humor, style, and humanity.

Ahead of her time, Mary was employed full time most of her married life. She was a bookkeeper but eventually became a General Manager of an Iron & Steel Salvage Company, volunteered as secretary to the local Chamber of Commerce, and managed her family with loving care.

Mary and Paul retired in 1986 to Cedar Pointe Village in Stuart, Florida where they enjoyed their early retirement making new friends, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with their grandchildren. Mary served as President of the Board of Directors of Village 6, and was a past President of the Women’s Club.

Mary enjoyed every opportunity that she could swing her golf clubs and buy a round of drinks at the clubhouse to celebrate her 2nd Hole in One! She volunteered at St Joseph Church, and was the gal who could cheer up friends and strangers alike with a joke and an unmatched sense of compassion and warmth that will be greatly missed. Mary’s 90 years on Earth taught her family and friends that life is too short to not speak your mind, have a cocktail, laugh, and love one another fearlessly and without regret.

The family would like to thank Mary’s oldest and dearest friend Helen Kousoulides for 30 years of friendship and fun; caregivers, Paulina, Carline, Alex, Tara, Melissa, Josette and Jessie; Dr. Chastain at HealthSouth; and Dr. Buttles, Maureen and Tracy at Treasure Coast Hospice House.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart, Florida at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017. Future arrangements for burial from St. Matthew’s Church in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, are pending.
