Mary Ann Boutilier of Boynton Beach, FL passed away on April 15, 2017 at the age of 73. Mary Ann was born in Houlton, Maine to the late Lloyd Boutilier and Mary McKinnon. She was predeceased by her brother Brion Boutilier of Oakland, CA in 1992.
Mary graduated from Manchester High School, St. Joseph’s College in Hartford, CT and received her Doctorate from Georgetown University. Dr. Boutilier was a Professor at Seton Hall University of Political Science from 1970 until her retirement in 2007. Dr. Boutilier was the co-author of two influential volumes; “The Making of Political Women” with Rita Mae Kelly and “The Sporting Woman” with Lucinda SanGiovanni. Dr. Boutilier co-authored with Lucinda SanGiovanni on numerous journal articles on liberal feminism. She worked tirelessly on behalf of her female colleagues on issues of gender equality in salary and benefits and led a task force exploring gender equality in athletics on campus. In 2001, Dr. Boutilier was awarded the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished service in recognition of her outstanding service to the University.
In her spare time, Mary enjoyed all sports, golf, and had collected over 600 pencil sharpeners which are currently on display in a library in Wareham, Mass. She enjoyed going to the casino and was an animal lover who volunteered at her local animal shelter.
Mary is survived by: Stephanie & Robert Letendre sister and brother-in-law of Swansea, MA, Lloyd and Laura Boutilier brother and sister-in-law of East Hampton, CT, Miles & Linda Boutilier brother and sister-in-law of Daytona Beach, FL, Denise Perri sister of Glastonbury, CT. Also survived by her long time dear friends Lucinda & Frances SanGiovanni.
A Memorial Mass will take place May 13th at 10:00 AM at Assumption Church, 29 S. Adams Street in Manchester, CT. Internment will follow at St. Jame’s Cemetery, 360 Broad St in Manchester.
