Obituary: Josephine Ann Mariano (86)

Josephine Ann Mariano, fondly known as “Chet,” passed away on Sunday, July 30th, 2017 peacefully in her home on South Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce, FL.. She was surrounded by her family for her final moments on this earth, a testament to their closeness and dedication to each other. Josephine was born December 9, 1930 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was one of seven daughters by her parents Theresa and Nichola Cardone. In 1954, Josephine married the love of her life Vincent J. Mariano and began a love story that would last 63 years. The pair started their family in Linden, NJ where she raised and is now survived by her two sons, Dr. Vincent J. Mariano of Longmeadow, MA and Atty. Nicholas P. Mariano of Belle Meade, NJ. Both sons started families and gave Chet her most precious gifts, her grandchildren. She lives on in her grandchildren Alissa and Michael, from Vincent and his wife Lisa, and in Kiley and Kristina from Nicholas and his wife Karen.

Josephine spent her early years as a secretary, business owner, and loving mother. She was a devout Catholic and reserved Sundays for family gatherings and large meals. As an accomplished cook, she expressed her love by always having a table filled with food and a home filled with love. Everyone was always invited. Her spaghetti and meatballs were a famous tradition which continues to live on in her children and now grandchildren.

Chet’s legacy will be her knack for intimately getting to know everyone she met. She loved nothing more than to share stories of her children and grandchildren with her friends and to report back stories to her family. She was so proud of her family and that was evident in her conversations. She was a true reporter, a “Chet” to the end.

She is preceded in death by her sisters Anna Kurinzi, Antoinette Cusmano, Angie Long, Grace Koenig, and Rose DiGirolamo.
She is survived by her sister Ida Porada and Josephine’s husband Vincent Sr. (VJ).
A memorial service is being planned at St Theresa The Child of Jesus Church, 131 E Edgar Rd, Linden, NJ 07036 on Saturday, August 26, 2017 immediately followed by a celebration of her life.

Special thanks go to Dr. Charles Fischman, Dr. Zafar Sharar of Grace Rehab, Rosie Cargill caregiver, Treasure Coast Hospice, and all the caring doctors and staff of Indian River Medical Center.

All County Funeral Home in Stuart, Florida will be making arrangements for Josephine's remains to be transported to New Jersey for her service and final resting place at the family's gravesite at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Edison, NJ.
