George is survived by his children, Bruce (Julie) Emo, Karen (Don) Gray, and Robert (Diane) Emo; and his grandchildren, Melissa Gray, Samantha Emo, Leighann Emo and Brian (Joy) Emo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, who died on May 28, 2011.

George was born in New York City on February 13, 1932, the only child of George and Julia Emo. He married Ruth Carolyn Schweyer on September 11, 1954. An Army veteran, George worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories, attending night school to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Electrical Engineering while the couple raised their family. During his tenure at AT&T, he was granted three U.S. patents for his work related to radar technology. Over the years the family lived in New Jersey, Kwajalein Island, North Dakota, and Gahanna, Ohio. Ruth and George retired to Savanna Club, Port St. Lucie in 1991 and traveled often in their Airstream motor home to see family and friends across the country.

George was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Port St. Lucie; enjoyed being with family, reminiscing, traveling, reading, bowling, crossword puzzles and assembling model trains. In his earlier years he was an avid softball and basketball player. He and Ruth were long-time members of WBCCI Airstream Groups in Ohio and Florida, with George serving a term as Club President.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9th at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 295 NW Prima Vista Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Andrew Lutheran Church designated for the HOPE Fund, which helps people in need and was an important mission for George.
