Obituary for Gary Pope

Gary Pope, 65, lost his battle with a rare aggressive type of cancer, and passed away peacefully the evening of August 27th, 2017, under the care of Hospice of the Treasure Coast at his family's home in Fort Pierce FL, surrounded by loved ones.

Gary is survived by his mother Martina Pope; sisters Karen Pope & Renee (Tony) Pope, brother Darrell (Jannie) Pope; children he loved dearly, Sabrina (Shawn) Mcglothlin, and Derrick (Jeff) Pope; step children Jackie (Cindy) Bullington, Lonnie Bullington, and Billy (Mary) Bullington; grandchildren Lance Mcglothlin & Teighlor Pope; 9 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 23 nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Arnie Pope, and his wife Jacqueline Pope.

Shortly after Gary's birth in Moline, IL, his family moved to Florida, initially to Haines City, then Fort Pierce, where he was raised and lived for over 50yrs. He spent his last 10yrs in Summerfield, FL.

He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt and fish, and when not working, he could be found in an air boat, hunting in a tree stand, or getting family & friends together for cookouts. He also spent a lot of time in Georgia with close extended family, the Metcalfs. Gary loved his dog Hershey, who was raised as part of the family. He was a hard-working, good-hearted country guy that worked in the construction industry for most of his adult life, from underground pipe work to owning his land clearing & dump truck company in Fort Pierce, FL.

Gary had been heart broken and lonely over the last year and a half since losing his wife Jacqueline to brain cancer; they had been together for over 22 years.

Gary was loved by many, and will be missed deeply. He was taken from us far too soon, and without pain or suffering.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting all donations be made to Treasure Coast Hospice.

A memorial celebration of life for Gary, will take place on September 17th, 2017, at Jaycee Park in Fort Pierce from 1pm-5pm, located at the intersection of S. Ocean Drive and Melaleuca Drive on the Indian River Lagoon.
