Obituary for Frederick T. Gras

Frederick T Gras, 78, formerly of Watervliet, NY, died at the VA Medical Center on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 after a long illness. Born in Troy, NY, he was the oldest child of Frederick T., Sr. and Loretta Keating Gras.

Fred graduated from Watervfliet High School, and then served in the United States Navy. He was a machinist mate on the destroyer, USS Blue. After his military service, he returned to Watervliet and was employed at Behr Manning, Inc. and then the Bendix Corporation. During this time he married Frances Ahearn of Green Island.

In 1973, Fred moved with his young family to Florida eventually settling in West Palm Beach. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at John Deere, Inc and then at QO Chemicals in Belle Glade retiring in 1992,

Fred loved his bikes - both the motorcycle that he frequently rode all the way to work in the Glades, and the bicycle he rode for exercise over many miles of his neighborhood each day.

Fred is predeceased in death by his wife Frances Ahearn Gras, son David Gras, siblings James (Rose) Gras, and Antoinette (Randall) Biggs. He is survived by his daughters Jeanne (Mark) Hayman of Port St. Lucie and Amy (Ralph) Mead of Wilmimgton, NC, as well as three granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Del Lago Chapel,

131 S Lakeside Drive, Lake Worth, FL 33460. Friends are invited to call beginning at 4:00 pm.
