Dr. Esther Goodman Sack (8/12/ 1918 – 2/8/ 2017) leaves her loving children: Dr. Joseph Sack and his wife, Dr. Diana Grace Sack, Dr. Trudy Sack, and her husband, Sandy Fisher, Sari Terrusa, and Yacov Sack and his wife, Chava Sack. Also grieving, are her 15 grandchildren and her 11 great grandchildren.
Esther was the caring and guiding matriarch to her entire family. Throughout her life, Esther demonstrated a fierce determination to live her life celebrating her own life choices and decisions. She was healthy, vital, and lived independently until her recent hospitalization late last month.
Esther’s parents, Benjamin and Rebecca Goodman, immigrated to the USA from Russia before World War One. They fought and struggled to establish a better life for their two children. Esther’s brother, Abby Mann, won several Oscars and multiple Emmys writing about the world’s innocent victims. He was inspired by his parent’s life stories.
Esther graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry, with top honors, when women’s bathrooms and dorms did not exist because women simply did not attend. Esther opened her own medical office next door to her father’s jewelry store in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She met Dr. Nathan Sack (9/13/1913 – 11/30/1990) when he asked her to cover his nearby office while he served overseas in World War Two. They fell in love and equally and lovingly collaborated as friends, spouses, parents, and professionals. They moved from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Florida when they both retired.
Esther was an artist. She drew, painted, and sculpted. She also volunteered for 20 years at her local elementary school teaching children math.
Esther’s indomitable will, spirit, work ethic, wisdom, and caring deeds will be sorely missed.
She will be buried next to her husband at Lakeside Memorial Park, outside of Miami with a small family service. In lieu of flowers or contributions, kiss someone you love.
