Obituary for Colbert Winston Walter

Colbert Winston Walter, 75, passed peacefully on December 15, 2017.

He was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 11, 1942 to Sybil Maud and Howard Ivanhoe.

Collie, as loved ones called him, attended boarding school in St. Ann's, Jamaica and graduated a skilled technician from Kingston Senior School. Upon graduation, Collie established a repair business in Annatto Bay, St. Mary - specializing in T.V. and radio repair. He sometimes brought his eldest son, Tony, with him to work on a T.V. or two. He eventually relocated his business to Montego Bay, St. James where he perfected his skills.

His business took him beyond the island to Nassau, Bahamas where he lived for several years. While there, he gained more contracts with busineses from other Caribbean Islands. Ever the free spirit, Collie traveled for his business and enjoyed life.

He setteled down in Montego Bay once again when he met and married his wife of 40 years, Patricia. Together they had a two children: Kerri and Damion.

In 1980, Collie closed his business and emigrated to the United States in hopes of finding better opportunities for his family. He worked as a taxi driver in New York City before finally retiring in Vero Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed: gardening, cooking and reconnecting with his sisters and friends. He spoke with excitement knowing that soon his family would be reunited in the States. He always thought the best of others and though life was far from perfect he knew that something good was always around the corner.

Colbert leaves behind his mother Sybil (99 years young) and wife, Patricia; his children: Hugh Anthony "Tony", Kerri-Ann Erica, Damion Colbert Winston "Curry" and Novellete. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jasmine, Andre, Ashley, Romario, Roshawna and Reanna; and great grandchildren: Kayden, Aalyiah and Joshua; as well as a son-in-law, Rowan. He will be greatly missed by his brother, Eric Michael; and his sisters: Barbara (Wilson), Dawn, Judith, Moria and Vanessa; and by his sister-in-law, Michelle and brother-in-law, Wayne. Colbert will also be fondly remembered by his ten nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. He was predeceased by: a sister, Barabra [Walter] (2002), his daughter-in-law, Aida (2017) and stepfather, Eric Vincent (2005).

Friends and loved ones are invited to All County Funeral Home, 1010 NW Federal HWY, Stuart, FL 34994 from 12 - 2 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018 to reminisce, support and comfort one another.
